“Seasonal Fall”
by Derek Felix AKA D Flex
The sun sets quicker than usual
Fading away behind dark grays
Suddenly things abruptly change
A howl can be heard above trees
As the wind blows leaves around
Colored maple leafs fly everywhere
With no destination found
Except their landing place doesn’t stick
Floating around up and down
Zig zagging like a trippy maze
That has no logical end
Only a place of season
Flowers begin to lose luster
Still hanging onto summer
Though mother nature starts
Taking over for good
Kids play in parks until dusk
Laughing and screaming in venture
Making it last longer
Cause they know it ain’t forever
Beach days are still here
But pretty soon will disappear
Leaving kids and adults empty
Oh just wait till next year
The sound of music can be heard
Echoing throughout parks
As shouts rain down from swings
While seagulls call out in despair
If only it could last some more
If only Fall ain’t knocking on the door
September lurks in the shadows
School bells blare out like rattles
Can still smell the taste of barbecues
Sucking in the hickory smoke
Reminding us of being free
Without no troubles to stress
Yes, it’s what we love best
If only it didn’t fly west
Rain drops begin to fall from way above
Soon steadying into a set of drums
Followed by heavy pitches
As thunder and lightning take center stage
The downpour foreshadows what’s coming
Leaving everyone bumming
The heatwave’s about to close
No more pool days in this town
Instead it’s forest hangouts
And straight chilling in rooms
Still plenty of laughs had
Only a different scene
That’s no longer timeless
Time to lay back and dream
As August shuts down
We reflect on a banging summer
Filled by rollercoaster screams
Followed by Kool Aid magic grins
It might be over for now
But the show shall return
Envigorating everyone
It’s far from done
