Sunday Around The League

January 28, 2008 in Dumb and Dumber Clown Mgt 101, NBA

It was a busy Sunday in the NBA. So let’s take a look at some of the exciting games which went down to the wire:

1.In the game of the day, the Magic got a buzzer beater from money perimeter shooter Hedo Turkoglu to beat the league’s best team the Celtics 96-93. If you caught some of this, it was a very high quality game between two of the East’s best. It looked like the Magic would run away with it when they led by as many as 16 in the second half thanks to a 22-4 run as Boston struggled without Kevin Garnett (abdominal strain).

Credit Celtic long distance threat James Posey for sparking a strong comeback in the final quarter. He dialed up four big shots from downtown to the tune of 16 points and six boards off the bench. Boston second-year starting PG Rajon Rondo played superb D notching a game-high six steals while finishing with an all around performance with 15, five rebounds and six assists.

Paul Pierce paced the Celts with 24 but his biggest play was when he drove down the lane and found a wide open Ray Allen for the tying trey from the left corner with 14 seconds remaining. Out of an Orlando timeout, a cutting Turkoglu came around and got the ball from Carlos Arroyo, took a couple of dribbles and then hoisted up the game-winning three near the key with Pierce defending. It hit nothing but net sending teammates out to congratulate the former King.

“It was a good shot,” Pierce acknowledged to the Associated Press. “I thought I played pretty good defense — cut off his initial drive, he turned around and shot a 3-pointer from two or three feet off the line and sunk the shot.”

“I didn’t really want to settle on a jumper,” Turkoglu later admitted. “I just tried to go to the hole and take a foul, but they had good defense and forced me to take a tough shot. I’m just glad it was right there today.”

Bottom line is the 28 year-old from Turkey drained a tough shot. Something he seems to have a penchant for doing. He’s one of the most overlooked players in the league. He can flat out score the ball beating you outside or off the dribble. What makes him so tough is his awkwardness.

Dwight Howard (double double- 18 and 16 with five blocks) might get all of the credit for the Magic’s turnaround but Turkoglu is one of the key reasons this team is where it is sitting atop the Southeast.

2.Another good game took place at the Staples Center between the Cavaliers and Lakers in the second of an ABC doubleheader. Oddly enough, due to the extremely odd January weather California is having where there’s been snow and torrential downpours, this game was delayed at one point in the first half due to a leak from the ceiling.

Once they finally fixed the issue, this back-and-forth game featuring a couple of the NBA’s best superstars in LeBron James and Kobe Bryant came down to crunchtime. It was the 23 year-old man child who won the duel with Kobe scoring 14 of his game-high 41 in the final 12 minutes as the Cavs prevailed 98-95 over the Lakers.

A big bucket by James gave his team a one-point lead with 76 seconds left. A Kobe aggressive drive resulted in an empty trip due to a charge giving the ball back to Cleveland. LeBron milked the clock and then perfectly drained a jumper from inside the three-point line to put his team up a field goal.

A Ronny Turiaf putback cut it to one with 13 ticks to go. A wild sequence nearly resulted in a Laker steal and go-ahead basket but Kobe’s try from in close didn’t go and the Lakers were called for a loose ball foul.

Following a pair of James’ free throws, the Lakers called time and setup their final play. Unfortunately, poor execution resulted in them not getting a desperation three off on time due to some indecisiveness from Luke Walton. I already heard about it from Hard Hits co-host Nate Sousa earlier. He was furious and dissed Walton, who former Knick coach Jeff Van Gundy praised for his “high basketball IQ.”

It definitely wasn’t on display on that awful play which de-proved the Lakers to 2-4 since big man Andrew Bynum went down.

“We ran our last-second play, I was hoping to get the shot off,” Walton lamented despite finishing with nine points, five rebounds, five dimes and four thefts. “I kind of fumbled the ball a little bit, wasn’t aware the clock was as low as it was, and as soon as I passed it back to Kobe, I realized that that was a mistake, and unfortunately it cost us big.”

“It was designed for me to come up from the top of the floor and get a good look at a 3,” explained a frustrated Bryant despite pacing his team with 33 (10-of-21 FG, 13-for-18 FT), 12 boards and six dimes. “We had to run a dribble weave in that situation and they both came with me, so I kicked it out. I don’t know if he had a clear look at the basket. I think they rotated to him pretty quickly. There’s always other options.

Whatever the reason, suddenly the Lakers (27-15) who a week prior had the best record in the West are sitting sixth in a strong conference while the surging Cavs (24-19) have pushed into a tie with the Raptors for fourth in the weaker East.

The Cavs lost power forward Anderson “Sideshow Bob” Varejao in the third quarter due to a left ankle injury. It looked pretty bad when he was helped off clearly limping but the encouraging news was that X-rays were negative. The valuable energizer off the bench is expected to undergo an MRI later today.

3.Another interesting finish occurred in Minnesota where the league’s worst team used a game-closing 10-0 run to stun the fading Nets (18-26) 98-95. This was just a pathetic loss by a heartless bunch who clearly aren’t playing for coach Lawrence Frank. Will he ever get canned?!?!?!?!?! Somewhere in New Orleans with the West’s best record (no joke), Byron Scott must be smiling.

You really can’t make this stuff up for a team which features the East’s starting PG for the All-Star game in Jason Kidd plus star duo Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson. I listened to the final 90 seconds on the radio courtesy of WFAN as their team did an outstanding job describing the latest meltdown which ran their losing streak to an inexplicable nine.

With the game seemingly at hand thanks to a big game from RJ (team-high 35 pts, 11-of-22 FG, 11-for-16 FT) and 25 and five dimes from Carter, it looked like the Nets would finally snap their eight-game skid. Suddenly, consecutive treys from Rashard McCants and ex-Celtic Ryan Gomes cut the lead to one with 40 seconds left. That’s when Carter forced the issue missing a key shot giving the T-Wolves the ball with a chance to go ahead.

They did thanks to emerging star Al Jefferson, who was fouled and sank both free throws. Then Jefferson missed on a driving lay-up, forcing the Nets to foul Jefferson again. He killed the Nets all night going for a career best 40 and 19 rebounds (eight offensive). The recently turned 23 year-old who was the centerpiece in the Garnett blockbuster deal wasn’t going to let down teammates sinking two more from the charity stripe where he made a living finishing 14-for-17.

Trailing by three with still five seconds remaining, the Nets got the ball to Carter but his three was short leaving the Nets and their broadcasters speechless.

“This is how it goes when things are going bad,” a disappointed Frank pointed out. “You lose games that you are in control that you should win. But, you have to kind of break through the karma and just keep on fighting, keep your head up.”

“Look, we have to be hungry,” the embattled coach said. “We have to be a desperate team for a win. We’re in a position now where we have lost nine games in a row, and each one is going to be harder.”

As ex-Knick Micheal Ray Richardson once said:

“The ship be sinking.”

Final thought. Does anyone else think the Celtics could regret that trade if they don’t add another banner to the rafters? Just some food for thought as Jefferson continues to dominate games. Gomes (9 pts, 4 rebs, 3 assists) and former Lincoln star Sebastian Telfair (12 pts, four dimes) aren’t chopped liver either. Both are doing their part.

Minnesota (8-35) still has a long way to go.

4.What would an around the league be without an entertaining Knicks-Warriors game in the Golden State? You betcha. Despite a solid effort on the first of their five-game Western trip, the Knicks (14-29) fell to the highscoring Don Nelson Warriors 106-104.

They just couldn’t make enough stops down the stretch against the balanced perimeter attack of Baron Davis (22 pts and nine dimes), Monta Ellis (24 pts, 9-of-15 FG, eight rebs, four assists, two thefts) and ex-Pacer Stephen Jackson (25 pts, four treys, 7-of-8 FT, four boards).

Despite Jackson heating up in the final quarter to the tune of 16 of his game-high 25, we’ll highlite Ellis and big man Andris Biedrins for why the Warriors prevailed.

Ellis made some difficult shots in the late going and Biedrins got every key rebound destroying New York for a season high 26- most in the NBA in 2007-08. He was a beast owning the glass for more than half his team’s 48 boards. Just ridiculous.

Though the Knicks got a solid game from sixth man Nate Robinson (22 pts, eight assists) along with 21, five and five from Jamal Crawford, it wasn’t enough against the Warriors, who outscored them 59-52 in the second half to erase a five-point halftime deficit and improve to a season high nine over (27-18).

For Isiah Thomas’ club, there were other positives such as solid defense from second-year guard Mardy Collins (2 pts, four rebs, 2 assists, +13) and excellent energy from Renaldo Balkman who came off the bench for 11, four rebounds, a game best three blocks and two swipes in 27-plus.

Problem was that Thomas opted not to play either bigs Zach Randolph (nine pts, seven rebs, six assists, minus-12) nor Eddy Curry (17 pts, minus-10) down the stretch due to how slow they were covering the speedy Warrior players.

The Knicks would be much better without either defensive liability. What are the odds of that happening though?

“We had our chances to win it,” a philosophical Thomas noted. “We had good looks and a couple of open shots that didn’t go down. … I thought we played some pretty good basketball.

He’s right. They had their shot but just didn’t make enough plays on the defensive end which is why his team despite talent continues to struggle in an erratic bottom of the East.

Shame on MSG announcer Gus Johnson for making a preposterous excuse when Quentin Richardson and Crawford misfired on late three’s in the closing seconds. The King of the HaHaaa Club sadly indicated:

It’s okay. They played hard.

So, that’s it?!?!?!?!?! Playing hard when you’re 14 under but falling short is acceptable!!!!! Only in the Dumb and Dumber Clown Mgt 101 warped world of Jim Dolan. What? Did he bark out the instructions to the usually smooth announcer???

What a joke this franchise has become. A laughingstock. Always full of excuses. They LOST! Only you wouldn’t know it by the way Johnson talked. Man. Where’s Bob Page when you need him? ;-)

5.On a brighter note, the Portland Blazers edged the Atlanta Hawks 94-93 at home thanks to the play of their star point guard Brandon Roy who didn’t care that he had a fever. The 2006-07 NBA Rookie of The Year led his young team to the victory snapping a two-game skid by sinking the winning free throw with just 2.3 ticks left.

“I didn’t even ask the doctor,” the former University of Washington star indicated after helping his team overcome a 19-point deficit. “I just said, ‘It’s fine and I’m going to play.’ He said some guys have their best games when they’re under the weather so I said I would try and use that tonight, and I was able to have a good fourth quarter.

In a conference loaded with star guards, the league has to find a way to get this kid into this year’s All-Star Game. He’s the biggest reason the Blazers (26-18) minus Greg Oden are one of the league’s biggest surprises.

The 23 year-old Seattle native who amazingly enough was swapped straight up in the 2006 Draft for former Villanova guard Randy Foye is a breath of fresh air. He logged over 40 minutes finishing an efficient 9-of-15 from the field while making six-of-seven from the line and handing out five assists.

“I was so disappointed in the first half in how we were playing. These fans fill this building up to see us play hard,” Roy expressed. “I was disappointed in our effort and I think in the second half we did a better job of giving them a good show.”

He’s the catalyst as one of my fave commentators Walt “Clyde” Frazier likes to say.

Kudos to Roy for coming up big when his team needed it most.

Miracles can happen

January 16, 2008 in Dumb and Dumber Clown Mgt 101

Jamal Crawford scored a season high 35 in the Knicks' 111-105 road win over the Nets. It was their third straight win.

Apparently, that was just the case across the Hudson as the laughingstock Knicks fought back from 16 down in the first half to defeat the Nets 111-105 at East Rutherford tonight. Apparently, defense wasn’t an alternative for either team.

So, the question is this. Should the Nets be embarrassed that they can’t seem to find the right formula to get the better of the Dumb and Dumber Clown Mgt 101 team which suddenly has put together a “winning streak???”

At least Lawrence Frank’s Jekyll & Hyde club has one more crack at these Knicks in two months at 33rd and Seventh Avenue on my Dad’s birthday. Maybe it will treat Jason Kidd and Co. better.

Are the Knicks suddenly to be taken seriously having reeled off three straight and gotten to three actual road victories- all mind you without injured star Stephon Marbury???

I don’t really have an answer. At 12-26 through 38 games, Lord Isiah’s team still has much work to do to undo the dreadful first half which has them only better than former coach Pat Riley’s Old and Older Heat (destroyed at home by the abominable Bulls 126-96). For some reason, that seems fitting considering it’s Florida. Just think. Half his roster can get up just in time for that early bird special!

An aging Shaq can't believe his eyes at how dreadful his Heat team actually is.

Might explain their latest despicable result dropping their 11th straight to de-prove to 8-29. Maybe that’s why Shaq had that stunned look on his face tonight. Only the rebuilding T-Wolves boast a worse record. At 5-32 they’re just three out of 29th! Now that’s worth playing for.

Back to the Knicks for a minute. Even with their third consecutive win, they still trail the Nets by a full seven games for the eighth spot. So before Clueless Jim Dolan pops the cork and gets ready to extend his prized executive through the next decade, he might want to pause first. Kind of like how he does during those rare but only exclusive to MSG Network interviews where the leader of a second rate jazz band invents new words in the English language. Apparently, Introduction to Public Speaking 101 wasn’t required for the Garden CEO.

So, what can Knick fans take from their team’s latest victory without cursing up a storm wondering why they can’t just lose every single game?

Nate Robinson gets plenty of love from Eddy Curry.

1.Jamal Crawford continues to (with help from the one and only Walt Frazier) perculate- following a 29-point effort over the Wizards with a season-high 35 shooting the lights out (11-of-20 FG) including connecting on six treys with a big one in crunch time. The enigmatic 27 year-old guard made it two straight games with six three’s and also was seven-for-eight at the charity stripe. Oh. And did we mention he also handed out a team best eight assists on a night the Knicks as a team had an un-Knick like 24.

2.Zach Randolph torched the Nets for a double double (24 and 11) shooting 8-of-15 from the field while draining all eight free throws. Mr. Headband even had time to distribute the ball with four assists forcing Nets’ brass to request a league investigation. He also finished plus-23 but that’s without adjusted stats- a John Giagnorio specialty.

3.Even Eddy Curry got up enough to pull down five rebounds to go along with his 17 (six-of-eight FG).

4.Sixth man Nate Robinson again came off the bench for Thomas and contributed finishing with 13 points, four boards, four assists, two steals along with a plus-19 rating.

5.In 11+ minutes, energizer Renaldo Balkman was plus-six with two rebounds and a bucket.

So, what went wrong for the Nets who suddenly have dropped three in succession after leading the Celts thru 36 before collapsing last Friday?

Jason Kidd and Vince Carter converge on Jamal Crawford.

1.After outscoring the Knicks 33-18 during the first 12 minutes, they somehow managed to be outscored 68-45 over the next 24 turning a big first qtr lead into a hole which they couldn’t climb out of. That won’t win on many nights. Especially in this league. Is it a lack of motivation for Frank’s club? Or maybe it’s just a lack of killer instinct.

2.Kidd handed out 17 assists but also was just four-of-nine for 10 points turning the ball over four times and totaling only two rebounds. When he doesn’t show up in that final category, it’s usually a bad sign for his team.

3.Rookie big man Sean Williams finished with 16 points but half came in the first 120 seconds meaning the former BC product didn’t make enough of a dent against the Knick frontline. He also picked up five fouls in 20+ minutes swatting just one shot.

4.While Vince Carter spread out the stat sheet with 26, 8 and 7, third option Richard Jefferson took a collar in assists and turned it over four times. He did finish with 22 but it wasn’t the most productive.

5.The Nets bench was outscored 23-13 by the Knicks with long distance shooter Bostjan Nachbar getting nine of those points and finishing minus-14. Robinson had as many points as the entire Net bench. How can you expect to win a game when you get virtually zilch from your second unit?

It’s really hard to figure out the Nets. Up till recently, they had gotten it turned around and were even over .500. Now, they’re back to 18-20 continuing to baffle many. There’s certainly enough talent for them to compete in the East. And with Williams developing and second-year center Josh Boone (18 pts on 7-of-11 FG, 12 rebs incl six off), you can’t say they don’t have inside threats.

Clearly, this team is underachieving under Frank. Does the axe fall soon? Possibly. Fact is they’re 0-for-3 against the Knicks. Maybe their act belongs in the circus.

You know what they say. Misery loves company.

Miracle on 34th taking place tonight???

January 16, 2008 in Dumb and Dumber Clown Mgt 101

Knick leading scorer Jamal Crawford has led his pathetic team to two consecutive wins. Can this Dumb and Dumber Clown Mgt 101 franchise actually make it an unheard of three in a row tonight vs the Nets?

Stop the presses. Yes. In case you haven’t been paying attention, the Dumb and Dumber Clown Mgt 101 NBA franchise known as the Knicks have actually reeled off two impressive wins in a row entering tonight’s road game at the Nets.

Believe it or not, the same franchise which had won only nine of their first 35 this season under Lord Isiah Thomas somehow managed to beat his former team the Pistons (89-65 blowout which had us double and triple checking the boxscore to make certain it was right) and the same Gilbert Arenas-less Wizards who swept the NBA’s best Celtics in a home-and-home by a count of 105-93 the other night.

So, how was this possible?!?!?!?!?! Was Hell finally freezing over? Since we no longer seem to get any snow even when the foolish meterologists predict at least six inches for much higher ratings than any Knick game, maybe this was the day the world finally came to an end. Well, of course if that were true, I wouldn’t be sitting here pondering this unlikely event.

With Crawford undressing the Wizards for a game high 29 (11-for-19 FG) including an unconscious six-of-seven from downtown and even making time to hand out four dimes, Thomas’ Knicks actually proved that they’re capable of putting out back-to-back solid efforts against two of the East’s best.

No truth to the rumor that Eddie Jordan and Flip Saunders immediately filed protests with the NBA league office to make sure those players were really the Knicks on the court which resides over Penn Station and not the same aliens who stole Michael Jordan’s NBA buddies’ talent in Space Jam.

Amazingly, the Knicks not only had five starters in double digits including dynamic dud duo Eddy Curry (10 pts, 3 rebs and an actual plus-six with no double cheeseburgers) and Zach Randolph (double double- 14 & 11 without any headband tosses, ejections or arguments with his coach).

Yes. Even Quentin Richardson’s back felt alright enough to log over 29 minutes contributing 13 points and seven assists. Maybe the most amazing thing was that spark plug Nate Robinson actually decided to get other teammates involved- handing out a team best eight assists along with his 14 off the bench taking just nine shots.

Was this really the same Knick team? That Thomas saw fit to play team energizer Renaldo Balkman nearly 18-minutes was a reward in itself for a player who never takes a possession off. Hence…the second-year forward finished with a productive eight points and nine boards while going plus-10. He epitomizes what a native Staten Islander who has the desire to make it is all about. I’d rather talk about a Balkman or Kyle McAlarney than former Curtis star Sandy Brock.

Fred Jones (four-of-seven FG, 2-for-3 from downtown, 10 pts) somehow went from not even playing to starting in place of Stephon Marbury who might need season-ending surgery.

So, the only remaining question for the East’s second-worst team is this:

Can a catastrophic event take place tonight at the ridiculously renamed Izod Center in East Rutherford? That would actually mean a third road win and three wins in a row which constitutes a “winning streak.”

If you’ve seen Major League II, then you know what I’m referencing here.

We’ll know in a couple of hours.

The dynamic dud

January 12, 2008 in Dumb and Dumber Clown Mgt 101

“We know that their two bigs in the beginning of the game, we had an advantage over them with our quickness moving laterally and up and down the court. So I just wanted to kind of exploit that and get going a little early.

-Chris Bosh on his virtuoso 40 point 11 rebound performance against The dynamic dud of Eddy ”Fat Albert” Curry and Zach “Stat Pad Central” Randolph following the Raptors’ 99-90 victory over Team Clown Mgt 101 at an angry Garden.

Doesn’t that statement say it all about this dysfunctional franchise which probably wouldn’t beat a WNBA team?

So, how much of a mismatch were Curry and Randolph against the 23 year-old Bosh? He torched them to the point where Lord Isiah benched Randolph with 7:35 left in the first half. The ex-Blazer played just 9:51 missing both field goal attempts while somehow managing to be minus-15. Curry wasn’t much better finishing with only six points, two rebounds and three fouls along with a minus-16 in 15 minutes.

So bad were they that Isiah gave them the rest of the night off and even had a heated exchange with Randolph.

“I thought he and Eddy both were just having problems with the foot speed of Toronto tonight and it was just a tough game to match up particularly for those two,” a philosophical Isiah Thomas said. “I just tried to go with quicker people and try to get us back in the game.“

“I don’t know what happened with that,” Curry later remarked. “It was a tough night at the office for Zach. He’ll cool off and it’ll be another day tomorrow.”

Apparently, it was cool enough for him to be yucking it up on the bench while his teammates were going down to another defeat as they dropped to 9-26.

If you saw the yeoman effort Renaldo Balkman (8 pts, 4-of-5 FG, 4 rebs, +10 in 24:39) put forth in the final quarter, it becomes pretty clear why neither Randolph nor Curry were on the floor. Balkman epitomizes the kind of heart and effort which needs to become more a trend instead of a rarity over at the World’s Most Shameless Arena.

NYC hoop fans have always appreciated the kind of hustle Balkman brings. There was one play where he made a great dive saving a ball. The overpaid bigs just don’t bring it like that.

Funny but I didn’t notice Stephon Marbury (13 pts, 8 assists, 4 rebs) dogging it in the final 12 either. He was playing very hard at the defensive end. Imagine if super sub Nate Robinson (20 pts on 10-of-18 FG) cared as much about defense as he does about jacking up shots.

When little used 36 year-old backup Darrick Martin is beating the energetic 23 year-old former Washington star off the dribble for a lay-up in crunch time, something’s wrong.

Oh…but what else would you expect in Knicks land? Where the circus is always in town. Apparently, the Rangers want to join them.

I like Jamal Crawford’s effort but would it kill the streaky scorer to pass the rock a little more instead of jacking up crazy three after crazy three?!?!?!?!?! He paced the Knicks with 27 on 9-of-17 shooting but misfired on seven of nine from long distance. You can do the math.

And we’ll end this latest edition with a couple of questions:

Why don’t Mardy Collins or Fred Jones play? Nevermind. To quote a classic 2Pac song Changes:

“Some things will never change.”

Seventh Hell

January 6, 2008 in Dumb and Dumber Clown Mgt 101

Dumb and Dumber Knick coach Isiah Thomas during his team's latest loss in Houston. You’ve probably heard of Seventh Heaven. Well, in the bizarro world of Dumb and Dumber Clown Mgt 101 starring the worst team money could buy, welcome to Seventh Hell!

Your future “NBA champions” dropped their seventh straight game last night losing 103-91 in Houston, who was without Tracy McGrady.

No worries for Yao Ming and the Rockets who still came out and led 27-13 after one quarter against this pathetic bunch. Yao finished with 30 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots against Eddy Curry.

Fat Albert followed a rare double/double (24 and 12) in a four-point loss to defending champion San Antonio with 16 points, six boards along with a team worst minus-14 rating. Unfortunately for my statsessed co-host John Giagnorio, it wasn’t adjusted.

In the first half, the Knicks fell behind by as much as 18. A common trend on what might very well be the franchise’s worst season.

In typical Knick fashion, they fought back and sliced it to 8 with under nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. The problem with frequently coming out flat and falling behind by so much is that you’re playing catch up the rest of the way expending a lot of energy.

And all it takes is one more run by your opponent to put the game out of reach. That the Knicks allowed rookie Aaron Brooks to torch them for a career high 22 points off the bench including four-of-five from downtown was not too surprising. Not when they refuse to defend the perimeter and fight through screens.

Case in point. Nate Robinson who paced the orange and blue with 25 matching his season best was guilty of just that on a Brooks trey in which the Oregon product was allowed to set his feet and fire away.

You’ve got to work hard to get around those picks and get a hand in the face making it tougher. It can distract the shooter.

The Knicks only permitted 22 points in the final 12 minutes and 49 for the second half. But the Rockets who don’t exactly score a lot got 55 in the first half. They were on pace for nearly 15 more points than they average (95.1 PPG).

Zach Randolph returned to the lineup after a league suspension for tossing his headband at an official. The former Blazer put up his 16th double double (18 and season high 22 rebounds) but shot 7-for-19 from the field and turned the ball over a game worst six times.

The Knicks as a team had 18 miscues. Too many to win. Especially on the road where they’ve won just once (at New Jersey). Their 1-13 record away from The Garden is surprisingly not the NBA’s worst. That dubious honor belong’s to the league’s worst team the T-Wolves who are a putrid 1-16.

Having dropped 13 of their last 14, the Knicks (8-24) are just a half game better than the Heat. Combined with the Celtics’ 92-85 road win at Detroit snapping the Pistons’ 11-game win streak, the Knicks now trail Boston by an un-godly 21.0 games.

Sadly, they’ve only played 32 games so far. That means there’s still 50 left to torment NYC hoop fans further embarrassing themselves in the process.

Ah. But that’s what Knick basketball has become. Unlike any other!

A brief introduction

January 3, 2008 in Dumb and Dumber Clown Mgt 101

Nate Robinson explains what went wrong to Isiah Thomas who still believes his team will one day win a championship. Walt Frazier was unavailable for comment. Too busy jiving and diving in a pool of laughter.

With the big news of a championship coming courtesy of lifetime Knicks President/Coach/GM (General Moron) Isiah Thomas after his team’s latest humiliating double digit loss to a shorthanded Kings team at Madison Square Garden, I figured this would be the appropriate time to make an upgrade to the HB site.

I mean what better way for all NYC and Knickerbocker fans to celebrate the team’s third NBA title then by creating their very own category separate from the NBA. I mean after all, the Knicks are a guaranteed lock for the 2008 Larry O’Brien Trophy.

Who cares if they’ve dropped a league high 15 of their first 30 by double figures?!?!?!?!?! Not James “Woh is me” Dolan!

Who cares if they’ve won only eight of those 30 including five consecutive defeats to improve to 8-22- third worst in the NBA with only the sad sack old and older Heat and rebuilding T-Wolves with fewer wins. At least those two teams actually boast a young franchise player (Mia-Dwyane Wade, Min-Al Jefferson).

It’s all going to change starting now! Who’s doubting Thomas these days?!?!?!?!?! This could become the real-life NYC hoops version of Miracle on 34th Street. He’s got the support from Dolan who still also believes the 2007 Mets didn’t collapse. They just hit a slump. Right, Omar Minaya? Roger Clemens also didn’t inject steroids either. It was Vitamin B! CBS’ Mike Wallace believes him!

Whatever happened to just having carrots and OJ? Oops. OJ just isn’t what it used to be. Not since June 1994. Just ask Patrick Ewing and his old teammates who couldn’t even get air time on NBC over OJ Simpson. We hear he’s finally discovered Nicole Brown’s killer! The exclusive to be held on the MSG Network with Dolan, Steve Mills and Bozo the Clown conducting the interview because no other network employee would take part.

Anyone got some extra popcorn? We want to enjoy the circus!

Hey. The Knicks might be struggling these days but look at the bright side. They still have 52 games left! ;)

They trail the league’s best team the Celtics (27-3) by only 19 games. That despite winning seven of their first 18 on the Garden floor even with Eddy “Fat Albert” Curry hanging out by the concession stand. He wanted to stay out of foul trouble and be productive at the same time.

Zach Randolph looks very enthused during last night's 107-97 home loss to the Kings.

Zach Randolph was busy meanwhile waving his arms at the refs while the Kings scored another bucket in transition. “It was the one armed man’s fault,” the ex-Blazer crowed. “You find that man!!!!!”

Man, who knew that he’d be such a natural for Harrison Ford’s role? No wonder Thomas brought him to Broadway. To become a Fugitive obviously!

Despite being without three starters including leading scorer Kevin Martin, Mike Bibby and Queensbridge’s own Ron Artest, the Kings led from start to finish.

Former University of Miami Florida star John Salmons still paced a balanced attack (four players in double digits) with 32 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Bronx native Francisco Garcia added 22, seven boards and three steals. Center Brad Miller also posted a double/double (26 and 16). Knick leading scorer Curry (24 pts, 3 rebs, 4-of-11 FT, 4 TO) accidentally thought it was a double Big Mac. In other news, Mark McGwire still doesn’t want to discuss the past.

There even was a Stephon Marbury sighting for the orange and blue. Coney Island’s Finest came off the bench to score 16 and hand out four dimes to which Coach Thomas immediately left the floor to dial for help at the whereabouts of Starbury.

Top pick Wilson Chandler even played over 15 minutes scoring seven along with three boards and two assists. He then immediately requested the NCAA give him a year of eligibility back so he could return to Depaul.

Meanwhile, Randolph had quite a productive night finishing with five points (just one more than Renaldo Balkman), four turnovers, four fouls, a team worst minus-25 and a game ejection in 16:49.

“There’s a refusal to come together and play collectively,” Thomas told the Associated Press after his team’s latest defeat last night.

“We do it in spurts, but then we sit back and we watch. Just somehow got to push through this and get them playing together as a group, because individually they do have talent.”

The destroyer of the former CBA also thinks his team still could develop chemistry. It just might take another 40 or so games. Oops. :-)

“I believe that one day we will win a championship here,” Thomas also reportedly stated before tipoff. “And I believe a couple of these guys will be a part of that. And I believe I’ll be a part of that.”

I don’t necessarily just want to win a championship. I want to leave something that’s going to stand for a long time. I want to leave a legacy, I want to leave tradition. I want to leave an imprint, a blueprint in terms of how people play, and how they coach and how they respond when they put on the Knick uniform. And I want to leave what I left in Detroit. Every person that walks through that door as a Piston, when they put on that uniform, there’s a certain pride that they carry. And I want to put that here and I want to leave that here in New York. I want to leave a championship legacy.”

Too late for that. He’s already created a legacy. One which amuses TNT’s Charles Barkley along with the rest of the league.

Here is a dubious list that Thomas’ legacy in four years which has included a grand total of zero playoff wins has helped create:

Oh. Don’t worry Knick fans. They only visit the defending champion Spurs tomorrow night.

As Frank Sinatra would say:

“The best is yet to come!”
