The Mets are not sold on Ryan Church, so when a right fielder like Manny Ramirez says he does not want to play in Boston anymore and is willing to jeopardize the Red Sox’s chance to win the AL East title or the AL wild card the Mets are supposed to be right in the mix to try and get him, right? Wrong.

The Mets, who are in there own logjam of a race with the Florida Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies, chose to make no move. It was that long ago that the Mets talked about going after Ramirez. Why not try again?

Sure some will say chemistry. Well chemistry is not why the New York Mets brought in Moises Alou, Carlos Delgado, and Carlos Beltran. You get them because they are put up big numbers. The team has shown a willingness to go for broke, so why not again.

The Mets pitching is coming along but it is still a little worrisome. Wouldn’t adding another dozen or so home runs help? Instead the Mets chose to move forward with what they have when everybody from the Yankees to the Angels to the Los Angeles Dodgers (the team getting Ramirez) are trying to do everything they can to make sure they have World Series tickets.

Mets tickets to Shea Stadium will see the same team they had at the All Star break minus the bevy of outfielders on the DL. Meanwhile across town the Bronx is celebrated with Yankees tickets to a team bent on making it to the post season.

Hopefully I am wrong and the team chemistry is enough to overcome the Phillies sluggers and the Marlins attempt at another march to victory. If not the last season at Shea Stadium will be remembered as the year Yankee Stadium stole the show and the Mets were too afraid to make the big move.
