It’s amazing sometimes how things go. I was all set to take a ride to my favorite bagel store out here dressed in a classic Jimi tee that only the rockers could wear.

And so, I flip on Channel 13 and what is on but an exclusive interview with one Carlos Sanatana by PBS’ own Tavis Smiley. I always knew just from his amazing guitar playing which I got to witness last year around this time how spiritual this man is.

There he was in classic hat and I guess medallion necklace discussing that very spirit that exists in his heart when it comes to music and his estranged wife who is out discovering her own path. Maybe he just understands more about life and how it works even using sports analogies like Steffi Graf referencing her remarkable 22 Grand Slams before walking away. Something he’ll eventually do when his genius fingers don’t feel the same.

Santana is 61- one year wiser than my Dad who turned the big 60 last week. We had a nice cake to celebrate. My Dad would know of course since he went to the original Woodstock in 1969 of which a much younger kid was out there wailing away with other members creating a 1960’s blend and sound that still exists if you boast that kind of deep appreciation for music. I saw it with my own two eyes at Madison Square Garden and was utterly amazed by the uniqueness of it all making it really feel like a different Era. Maybe I never got to experience that time but somehow it didn’t feel that way last April.

That’s the beauty of a guitar genius like Santana. He’s timeless. Let’s show you how in this long overdue video edition:

It’s always amazing to hear Soul Sacrifice and fittingly that’s what they ended with at last year’s show. It’s not just sound but a feeling that just takes over a crowd. The drumming solo is great along with the organ as is the usual solos from Santana. The pics at the end are so trippy.

One of his most popular songs. So upbeat and fast. His vocals aren’t bad either. Love the Hawks jersey! :-)

Rap and rock. Not a bad sound. Very romantic song.

Classic stuff!
