Lions seniors go out right way

February 16, 2009 in Articles, Berkeley Carroll

PARK SLOPE, BK- It didn’t come easy. Like most of their wins this season, the Berkeley Carroll Lions Varsity Basketball team stepped up when they had to winning their final home game of the season over LREI 64-57 last Wednesday at the BC Athletic Center in Park Slope.

The win not only put them over .500 (11-10) but allowed seniors Giancarlo Hirsch, Phil Seay, Max Rainey and Alex Pierce to go out the right way in their home swan song before family and friends on Senior Night.

Much like the previous week in which Girls coach Morgan Sevigny started her three seniors in a one-point squeaker over Packer, first-year coach Mike Kubera gave the nod to all four of his senior leaders bumping Rainey and Pierce into the lineup.

Perhaps due to the occasion, it wasn’t startling that the Lions came out flat getting outscored 9-2 forcing Kubera to burn an early timeout. They finally settled down recovering quickly thanks to the scoring of Seay, who continued to have the hot hand following up a 22 point effort in a road loss to Staten Island Academy with a team best 24.

The guard helped carry the load scoring on an array of driving hoops and from the outside while Hirsch chipped in with 19. But while the two co-captains did the bulk of the scoring, the contributions of Rainey and Pierce were invaluable with both playing unselfish ball adding intangibles to offset a strong challenge from the Lions’ younger feisty opponent who never went away cutting the deficit to four by half.

With the action heating up in a seesaw third quarter that saw both teams exchange leads, Rainey had a big bucket executing a play perfectly rolling to the basket and laying one home off a Hirsch feed for two of his six points.

Still with the game up for grabs, Berkeley Carroll began to cease control early in the fourth turning up the defensive intensity while converting on their end to build a double digit lead.

Improving freshman point guard Joe Longo stepped up with timely buckets and junior Nate Barr scored in transition and made just enough free throws down the stretch to fight off LREI’s late challenge.

The victory was a nice way to finish the home part of their schedule. But even better was the halftime ceremony which saw Coach Kubera give a well thought out speech on how vital his seniors were making certain to point out how dedicated Rainey and Pierce were always practicing hard and being ready whenever called upon.

Of course, the third-year BC physical education teacher had high praise on starting holdovers Hirsch and Seay noting how when he first came on during 2006-07 and, Giancarlo was only a role player who could make shots from the perimeter. But over the past two years, he’s become a complete player able to score in a variety of ways, rebound, dish and defend always competing.

Kubera also referenced Seay’s hustle. Particularly his willingness to take sacrifice taking charges while never giving up on plays getting back on D which drew a great reaction from an emotional Hirsch who slapped his teammate five to laughter.

Ironically, that kind of committment was on display during a LREI fast break where it seemed certain they’d score but a hustling Seay ran all the way back deterring the shooter before getting a big rebound to encouragement from the coaching staff and teammates.

Capping off the festivities, all four players stood for a photo op with their proud coach taking pictures. Memories that will last a lifetime.

Lions Look To Finish Strong: With a couple of big games left later this week including a pivotal road match to St. Ann’s, the Lions will be looking to finish strong in preparation for the ACIS League playoffs.

The quarters won’t get underway until next week.

Lady Lions Face Stiff Test Thursday: While the boys will be playing for something, so too will first-year Coach Sevigny’s Lady Lions who have one game remaining when they visit league rival Dwight this Thursday.

A win would help their cause as they try to make the playoffs.

Cohen doing alright with New Paltz

February 15, 2009 in Articles, Berkeley Carroll

Former BC standout Zoe Cohen stands watching a free throw during New Paltz game at Baruch.

Former BC standout Zoe Cohen stands watching a free throw during New Paltz' game at Baruch.

MANHATTAN, NY- She came into cheers from those who knew her best including the support of proud parents and this former scorekeeper who was fortunate enough the past couple of years.

They had played nearly 16 minutes in the first half when Zoe Cohen finally entered wearing her trademark No.12 jersey for New Paltz.

The visitors from upstate New York were in a tough battle against a quality opponent host Baruch College who led much of the way building an early 13-point lead. But there was Brooklyn’s own Cohen doing her best to provide a spark.

Maybe it wasn’t surprising to see the former Berkeley Carroll standout get the ball on her first possession and bank in a three from the right wing as if she’d been in all along instead of on the bench cheering on teammates which features former Staten Island Notre Dame Academy star Nicole Sarcone.

Somehow, it’s what you came to expect from the 18 year-old freshman who always carries a wide eyed grin along with a great attitude. Anything really seems possible with her out on that court living out a childhood dream continuing a basketball career in her first year of college.

Life didn’t end after helping lead the Lady Lions to Berkeley Carroll’s only championship winning the ACIS during junior year with an amazing comeback from double digits down over league rival Dwight. There was also eclipsing 1,000 points during a brilliant career and putting together an outstanding senior year even if they didn’t repeat falling in the semis to eventual champ Staten Island Academy.

Now, it was a year later and here she was on the court playing a different role on a more experienced team that’s seen roommate Caitlin Irwin who’s also out of Brooklyn starring for Bishop Kearney earn a starting role becoming the Hawks’ best perimeter deep threat.

After getting more minutes early on performing admirably, Cohen’s seen them decrease but it was hard to tell from how much support she gave her teammates before going glass from downtown while hustling and playing rugged defense helping New Paltz make a run to get within three. It was during that spurt that you saw her competitive spirit come out. Sure. These are different times but thus far, she’s meeting a new challenge head on.

Of course, we all wanted to see her play more but understood that third-year New Paltz coach Jamie Seward is doing the best he can with a solid group that’s now gone 15-6 overall winning their last two including 11-2 in SUNYAC play ranking second to conference leader Cortland.

Instead, those who came out to see Cohen supported the team turning one portion of the Baruch gym located on East 24th and Lexington into a New Paltz section having as much fun as possible. Former teammates which included championship holdovers Ashley Privett and Keyanka Bailey along with assistant turned coach Morgan Sevigny had made it over near the conclusion of the first half after pulling out a one-point road win over Chapin uptown.

There they were cheering loudly with Bailey teaming with Tess Salvatore turning the back of Sevigny’s clipboard into a personal ode to their former teammate which now read:

Go ZOE #12

Even if Baruch righted the ship ironically when Cohen went to the bench late in the half taking advantage of a bad call leading to Coach Seward getting teed up, it wasn’t about to spoil the fun as we all sat and cheered for her when she reentered during the second half rooting as hard as we could for New Paltz. Suddenly, we became fans all cause of the wonderful young lady we know who’s even a better person off the court.

Maybe it was fitting that she also made her only other field goal attempt driving hard to the bucket before laying one home. More applause and loud screams from everyone who was there including Gilda Gross, Mia Kellman and Emma Schurink.

So what if they fell behind by more than 20 against a quality opponent before making things interesting late in a hard fought game they lost 78-63. The loss was irrelevant. Our Zoe had played well in her eight minutes finishing two-for-two from the field without any turnovers.

As her and teammates walked off the court to change in the locker room, she quietly nodded over to everyone acknowledging the support. Most had to get back home through the subway and left with Coach Sevigny.

Meanwhile, Privett and her Mom along with myself and Cohen’s parents patiently waited. When she came out, there were hugs for everyone along with some banter about how things had been.

College is a big adjustment and it looks like she’s doing alright. Fitting in and being the person we all had come to love and respect.

Representing Park Slope and BK well as only she could.

Video(s) of Day: Party songs

February 14, 2009 in Video of Day

It’s Valentine’s Day and while I’m not big into it due to the overhype and commercialization, wishing all the honeys a very nice Happy V Day out there! :-)

Crazy couple of days with yesterday being Friday The 13th with the remake out in movie theaters. Yeah. I’ll probably venture out with my horror sessed younger brother and go see it. I doubt it will be as good as the original but hopefully they did a respectable job.

This video seg is going to feature my favorite party songs cause that’s what I really feel like doing. So, I’m going to try to cover a lot. Let’s see what makes the cut! ;-)

Classic Naughty! Hey!!!!!!! Hoooooooo!!!!!! Hey!!!!!!!! Hooooooooo!!!!!!! Hip!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hop!!!!!!!!!!!! Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D

OPP brings down the house too!

This was the bomb back in the day. So get out your seats and Jump Around!!!!!

Sweet line: “I’ll serve your ass like John McEnroe.”

Great fucking video! You Gotta FIGGHHHHHT FOR YOUR RIGHT

TOOOOOOOOOOO PARRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!! :-D :-D

Alright. So he was a weird looking dude but Shock G sure had a great style. Classic lines in this hot track. Old school!!!!!

“I’m crazy. Alow me to amaze thee! They say I’m ugly but it just don’t faze me.”

Classic LL! And you say New York (Yawk) City! Perfect house party music.

Love me some throwback Cypress Hill! They used this at the end of Juice before GQ and Bishop fought on the roof. Epic scene! :-)

It really don’t get much better than some of the originators of hip hop and rap!

Salt N’ Pepa rocked the house and this song is still played for good reason. Never goes out. Love the way this video was shot. Such energy!

“It’s like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder how I keep from going under.”

Classic beats. Dope track. Great message! It’d be easy to mention “White Lines” cause that’s a fucking dope ass song too with another positive message.

1994 was such a great year! Not just cause the Rangers won the Stanley Cup and the Knicks went to the Finals but because the music was off the charts!

Ain’t Nuthin’ But A G Thang baby

Two loc’d out **** so we’re crazzzy

Death Row is the label that pays me!

Biggie will always be BK and this song will always be King for the truth in the lyrics of fulfilling his lifelong dream. Tho “Big Poppa” is probably a hotter track.

Epic video. Hot track! Jigga and Mary J smooth and raising the level! Da Roc Boy’s got so many songs to choose from, it’s ridiculous. One day, I’m doing a whole Jay Z tribute. He’s da man!

Love Money Ain’t A Thing too with Jermaine Dupri. It’s bad!

He was only seventeen, in a madman’s dream,
the cops shot the kid, I still hear him scream,
This ain’t funny so don’t ya dare laugh,
just another case ’bout the wrong path,
Straight ‘n narrow or yo’ soul gets cast(?).

Mirror mirror on the wall
Who is the top choice of them all
there was a rumble tumble, five minutes it lasted
the mirror said, “You are you conceited bastard!”

Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick going hard on one of the original party songs featuring the beat box! I can kinda do it. Haha.

The lyrics in this are some of the strongest ever. Genius!

This was a girl playing hard to get
So I said “What’s wrong?” cause she looked upset
She said uh, “It’s all because of you
I’m feeling sad and blue
You went away
and now my life is filled with rainy days
I love you so
How much you’ll never know
Cause you took your love away from me”

You can’t have a party without 2Pac. He’s alive!

He’s probably one of the lyrical geniuses out there. So poetic in what he wrote and expressed. His music is timeless. I’m also preferential to “Me Against The World” tho it’s more of a personal track about his battle.

I grew up on the crime side, the New York Times side
Staying alive was no jive
At second hands, moms bounced on old men
So then we moved to Shaolin land

Wu Tang!

This video was total chaos. Memorable shit!

This is serious

We could make you delirious

You should have a healthy fear of us

Cause too much of us is dangerous

So dangerous so dangerous

My flipmode squad is dangerous

My whole entire unit is dangerous

The Chicago Bulls used to use this hot track during games when MJ ruled bball. It rocks!

This was the shit back in the day. House partttttttyyyy!!!!! :)

This is a cool video with them depicting some action packed scenes from The Matrix featuring Keanu Reeves and Carrie Ann Moss.

They also had the hit Another Night Another Dream. I linked up the animated version cause it’s really done well.

Infamous at the top of their game dishing it.

I’m only 19 but my mind is old

When things get for real my warm heart turns cold

Classic DMX! Raise the roof!

We’ll have more later.

Video of Day: Weezer

February 10, 2009 in Video of Day

Perhaps this might sum up how Alex Rodriguez feels at the moment. But then again, it’s Weezer and they totally rock! :-)

I still can’t believe I saw them last September at a rocking Garden. Amazing talent! Plus Rivers Cuomo’s a maniac full of pure energy on the stage.

They shall always be one of my favorite acts! If only they had played the epic, “Dreams” at that concert. That song is utterly amazing!

Here’s one which sounds darn good live:

Who doesn’t love holidays?!?!?!?!?! ;-)

Random Thoughts: A-Rod Circus

February 10, 2009 in Alex Rodriguez, MLB, NY Yankees, Random Thoughts

There’s been so much negative reaction to Alex Rodriguez’ admission that indeed the SI story that he used performance enhancing drugs while as a member of the Texas Rangers was true.

Making matters worse, the three-time AL MVP admitted during an interview with ESPN’s Peter Gammons that he juiced for the first three years as a Ranger from 2001-2003 feeling the need to fulfill heavy expectations due to the then richest contract in MLB history (250 million over 10 yrs) even if it meant going outside the boundaries.

The haunting reality here is that the man known to many as A-Rod never needed steroids to be a great player. We’re talking about one of the most gifted superstars of our Era with God given ability that most athletes could only dream of.

Is what former Yankee skipper Joe Torre said in his controversial book The Yankee Years true about him needing the game along with gaudy statistics to go with it? Might that be the answer for why he felt it necessary to cheat even though at the time, MLB was only first testing with promises that the 104 positive tests would remain anonymous?

So much for that promise. Once again, baseball has failed miserably here and deserves all the blame it gets for what’s now known as The Juiced Era (Error) that claimed stars such as home run record holder Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi, Roger Clemens, Rafael Palmeiro, Andy Pettite and definitely Mark McGwire, whose own brother published a book to get the truth out.

So much for family loyalty, huh? But I guess in Big Mac’s world, Denial Ain’t Just A River In Egypt. What is it about lying with these big name ballplayers? Deny, deny, deny until the cows come home only for the proof to come out that they in fact lied to the public.

Roger Clemens is one of the greatest pitchers this game’s ever seen but instead of  all the wins, strikeouts and Cys, he’ll best be remembered for his humiliating performance last year versus former trainer Brian McNamee during trial which influenced a case of perjury against The Rocket. Expect to see him in an orange suit. Might he be next to Bonds?

As for A-Rod or A-Fraud or A-Roid depending on what you prefer, it’s been a rough month for him first with the stuff coming out of Torre’s book even if then bench coach Larry Bowa’s “A-Fraud” reference was supposed to be in gyst. You do wonder though if his own teammates felt that way about Mr. Supersensitive who always wants to make everyone happy.

It’s good that he came forward and admitted on air that he cheated but this was the same man who went on with CBS News anchor Katie Couric and denied ever using steroids. His reasoning is that he couldn’t be honest with himself. What in the heck does that mean?!?!?!?!?!

These days, sports are becoming sadder and sadder with baseball taking the biggest hit. How would you feel if you were the father of a kid playing Little League who looks up to Rodriguez? The cold harsh reality is that there just aren’t many heroes left in sports for kids to idolize.

Can juicing start at a young age? Certainly. Kids in high school can succumb to the pressure of performance on the field. You just don’t know anymore which is very scary.

What’s happened to baseball is sickening and will continue to haunt the game even if it does pick itself back up. How are the Yankees feeling? It seems like players who have worn Pinstripes have been unfairly targeted while other teams haven’t had to deal with as much backlash.

Is Daily News baseball writer Bill Madden right in saying A-Rod doesn’t belong in Cooperstown and that the Bronx Bombers should get rid of him? Does anyone actually believe any of the other 29 teams would get rid of a player the caliber of this man?

I probably would still say he belongs in the Hall despite those three seasons. He did come out and say he’s been clean since becoming a Yankee in 2004. The question is who believes him?

Can he recover his reputation or will it just be another nightmare? How will the biggest star the game has deal with the heavy media and intense fan scrutiny in what’s supposed to be a bounce back year for the Yankees? Will it become too much of a distraction?

There’s no way of really knowing until the real season starts up in April. For now, it’ll continue to be a three ring circus which A-Rod always seems to draw.

I remember when sports used to be fun and some still are like the college Div.III women’s basketball game I attended last night at Baruch College with them defeating New Paltz. I’m going to write more about that sometime later.

Games still can be fun for everyone if played for the right reasons. I just wish we could get back to that instead of the garbage that’s on the front covers these days.

Who’s with me?

Everflowing

February 10, 2009 in Shaolin Freestyle/Poetry 101

 puffy white

“Everflowing”

by Derek Felix AKA D Flex

It’s awfully hard to tell you things

When all they do is play like a game

Flying around in my wild imaginative mind

Just once I’d like to let the river shine

Wondering if it could ever get done

Instead of backing out unloading the gun

Unable to release myself

Screwing up and asking for help

Everflowing in a way should always be

Everflowing and finally set free

Showing true colors we’ve always wanted

Opening eyes no longer feeling haunted

But here I am all alone

As the wind begins to groan

Meditating as a way of salvation

Escaping from the current situation

Oh the struggle it is just to get away

Wishing things went your way

Begging God please

As you drop to your knees

Everflowing like the calm wind on the trees

Everflowing on an early Spring day producing a nice breeze

No longer hiding behind a storm

Finally calm enough to reach the norm

classic sunset

Kick Ass Movies: Hoosiers

February 7, 2009 in Kick ass Movies, Video of Day

Hoosiers starring Gene Hackman will always be a classic basketball movie exemplifying what sports are all about.

Hoosiers starring Gene Hackman will always be a classic basketball movie exemplifying what sports are all about.

It’s been a while since I discussed a great sports movie. One of my favorites has always been Hoosiers starring Gene Hackman and Dennis Hopper along with the lovely Barbara Hershey who also happened to play an evil character in another classic The Natural nearly derailing Roy Hobbs’ baseball career. What were the odds she’d also co-star in arguably the best basketball movie of all-time playing the principal of Hickory and one of Coach Norman Dale’s few adversaries/love interest?

It was also a touch ironic that Chelcie Ross’ character was a heavy opponent while some seven years later there he was giving that inspirational pregame speech in Rudy.

They might’ve exaggerated a couple of storylines of the original classic Indiana high school basketball Cinderella story with the similar smalltown Milan Indians winning the 1954 Indiana State Championship. However, the year in the movie is 1952 and this time it’s Hickory with star Jimmy Chitwood playing the heroic role of Bobby Plump even winning the title from an almost identical spot on the same Butler University court they shot it at.

Though they give it more controversial storylines such as Dale’s checkered past and temper along with his relationship with Hershey’s character. There’s also Hopper who plays the drunk who he asks to help as an assistant coach. Neither of which were true with Milan.

Everyone loves a good underdog story which is why they made Hickory that way but the Indians weren’t that in the least returning four starters and having made the state semifinals in 1952-53 meaning they were one of the favorites.

But it’s true they did win the championship game over Muncie Central by just two points- the closest marging during a run in which they won every other game by at least eight.

Unlike Hickory in the film, not every playoff game was a nailbiter for the Milan Indians. They only lost twice.

Still, even if they changed some of the plots turning it into a real Hollywood script, it doesn’t change how well portrayed it is from Hackman doing a masterful job as Coach Dale to Jimmy waiting it out before saving the coach at a town hall meeting. Everything’s really well done and shot superbly. If you love that small town homey feel, then this movie’s for you.

There are also many good quotes which inspire oh so much. We’re taking some of the best scenes as an added bonus to this special Hoosiers entry.

“Don’t get caught watching the paint dry.” ;-)

The opening shot of that sunset overlooking the farmland is perfect. There’s such an appeal about it. Very scenic with great theme music. I can’t really explain.

I score basketball games for Berkeley Carroll three years running in Park Slope and it’s certainly not like this. It might have to do with it being a well run private school. They do a nice job recognizing their seniors during the final games. Let’s put it this way. People out here make a bigger deal out of hoops because the local Staten Island paper treats it that way.

The kids in BK deserve more and I try my best to give it to them. As for this scene, I really like what he says here when they’re calling for Jimmy. Any sport you play includes so much sacrifice and true dedication which as Dale says, deserves respect.

No one individual is bigger than the TEAM. Valuable lesson. Love Shooter’s reaction at the end.

This is one of my fave scenes as he had promised not to get tossed again but did so intentionally to force Hopper’s character Shooter to coach and save the team bringing them even closer together.

“Don’t get caught watching the paint dry.”

Best line of the movie! :D

This pregame speech before the Regional Finals always gets me.

“If you put your effort and concentration into playing to your potential to be the best that you can be, I don’t care what the scoreboard says at the end of the game. In my book, we’re going to be winners!”

I like what he says but most importantly asking his players what’s on their mind. Plus the David/Goliath prayer. Great stuff!

They all wanted Jimmy to take the last shot because they wouldn’t have gotten there without him. Besides, what would a great Hollywood scripted sports movie be without such an epic ending. :-)

In closing, I’m also preferential to the very final scene at the empty gym where you can hear Dale’s voice talking to and discussing his team before focusing in on the black and white Hickory 1952 team photo before perfectly ending with what he said prior to that championship game:

“I love you guys.”

Anyone who’s ever played competitive sports on a team knows what it’s all about. Doing whatever it takes to win which is what makes this movie such a winner all these years later.

A classic in every sense.

Video(s) of Day: Savage Garden

February 5, 2009 in Video of Day

It’s lazy Thursday. Well not really. I am going to do some stuff later including a couple of sets and stretches. Already did one and feel good. :-D

Lately, I’ve been feeling energized and inspired. Must be from just getting back in a routine prepping for the gym again. Hard to believe basketball’s almost done. But I’m ready to put in the work once this icy cold weather fades away.

Speaking of which, I felt like some Savage Garden. They had some good songs back in the day. Couple of nice videos too. Yeah. The guys from down under could sing and were way better than those other groups.

Here are a few of my faves:

The longer version of this song is better starting out with the subway shot. But none of them can be embedded. To The Moon And Back was always one of their best tracks with words so beautiful.

This is in the top five with some strong words about when things aren’t falling your way. Lots of emotion. Good video!

I always thought this sounded so different compared to their other stuff. You almost wouldn’t believe it was the same group. This was always a very catchy and fast paced song. The way they shot it was cool.

I really want to put up “Truly Madly Deeply” and “I Knew I Loved You” featuring a then remarkable Kirsten Dunst but none of the videos can be embedded. So, you’ll have to settle for links. Watch the one with Dunst as she looks rather incredible and the way it was shot is just priceless on a NY Subway with great imagery.

Savage Garden: “Truly Madly Deeply

Savage Garden: “I Knew I Loved You

Maybe it’s intuition
But some things you just don’t question
Like in your eyes
I see my future in an instant
And there it goes
I think I’ve found my best friend
I know that it might sound more than a little crazy
But I believe

I knew I loved you before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you before I met you
I have been waiting all my life

There’s just no rhyme or reason
Only this sense of completion
And in your eyes
I see the missing pieces
I’m searching for
I think I’ve found my way home

I know that it might sound more than a little crazy
But I believe

I knew I loved you before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you before I met you
I have been waiting all my life
(add the whos here)

A thousand angels dance around you
(and the whos here)
I am complete now that I’ve found you
(and the whos here)

I knew I loved you before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you before I met you
I have been waiting all my life
(and the whos here)

Repeat chorus 3x with chorus

Video(s) of Day: The Doors

February 4, 2009 in Concerts/Music, Video of Day

The music of Jim Morrison and The Doors will forever be remembered leaving a long lasting legacy like most legends.

The music of Jim Morrison and The Doors will forever be remembered leaving a long lasting legacy like most legends.

Originally, I was going to do some new The Fray from their second album being that they’ll be performing in the city later tonight at Webster Hall. I really want to go but it’s not looking too good especially with it being soldout.

They’re supposed to webcast it on their official site with a start time of 9:10 ET. Maybe I’ll check it out assuming I don’t luck into scoring tix.

So, I was on YouTube and came across one of my favorite Doors songs. I just love The Doors. Jim Morrison! What else needs to be said?

Instead of previewing some new stuff, I decided to change it up and sprinkle in a few of my favorite Doors songs. The legend of the eccentric Jim Morrison shall live on forever just like my idols Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, John Lennon and 2Pac. Janis Joplin too.

What is it about age 27 (Morrison, Jimi, Joplin) and why does it seem like most legends die so young? I guess it’s part of leaving that legacy. Gone but never forgotten.

Anyway, here are some of my faves. Enjoy!

It’s such a weird vibe song but done so well. Kind of odd video too from this user. Well, it’s a dark song with great lyrics and appropriately shot.

You can’t have a Doors video feature without linking up their most popular and best song. Well, to me at least. “Light My Fire” embodies so much and is utterly amazing. That I was able to discover a live version from Europe is even better as they really do sound good.

It’s got that nostalgic feel. Just listen to them play in the middle which to me has always been the best part even as Morrison kicks it into high gear at the epic conclusion. The guitar, drums and keyboard are magnif! :-D And of course watching Morrison do his thing on stage is a story all to itself.

Another epic with so much meaning and feeling. He just was on his own planet in some other dimension. But hey. So was Jimi! ;-)

Alright. This is kind of an odd place to play but whatever. “Touch Me” is such an upbeat sexy track with much appeal. It’s played fast and Morrison controls the tempo like always. Solid performance!

Absolutely tremendous! Nothing else to add. :-)

The Rising Moon

February 3, 2009 in Shaolin Freestyle/Poetry 101

“The Rising Moon”

by Derek Felix AKA D Flex

As you looked up at the sky

It struck ya right away

Shining and staring back at you oh so fly

Silent but looking as if it had much to say

Politely giving you piece of mind

Reminding you what makes it all worthwhile

It shall always be one of a kind

Turning that frown into a bright smile

Oh what you’d give to reach

The rising moon

Shake it by the hand

And experience it’s special bloom

No matter what it shall always overlook you

Watching over constantly in a quiet manner

Its eyes omnipresent whatever you do

When you glance skyward so easy to appreciate its glamour

No words even need to be spoken

It’s communicating with you in its own unique way

Don’t disregard its presence or you’ll become broken

Ya might not think it but its vital that you stay

Oh what you’d give to reach

The rising moon

Float in the air

Emptying thoughts of doom

Taking you to a different kind of place

Where anything is really possible

Literally flying into unchartered space

No longer held to a different standard or responsible

Instead getting to choose a brand new path

Exploring the many differing dimensions

In a world without remorse or wrath

With whatever you choose grabbing your attention
Oh what you’d give to reach

The rising moon

Enjoying all the elements

With nothing ending soon

Its glow is like a laser light dance party

Where the fun never stops

So chill glide and party hearty

Raise the volume without fear of cops

No curfews bitching or moaning on this orbit

Just plenty of excitement where anyone can scream

And relax without the usual bullshit

Making you realize this is the best ever dream

Oh what you’d give to reach

The rising moon

Its magnetic lights shining all around

With no worry nor gloom
