Last week, I was fortunate to get out to the big city at Madison Square Garden for one of my favorite acts Weezer. As noted in last week’s review, they didn’t disappoint.

They played almost all their biggest hits from the Blue, Pinkerton, Green, Make Believe along with a half off their brand new Red album released this past summer.

Everything sounded amazing. My seats were in 311 facing the right side of the stage which wasn’t bad at all. They rocked down the house ripping through a 21 set list which included a pair of encores.

Here’s some of their stuff which made the show one of the best I’ve ever checked out:

Weezer: “My Name Is Jonas“-Live MSG 9-24-08

the perfect song to kickoff a phenomenal show. While Buddy Holly, Undone-Sweater Song and Say It Ain’t So get all the notoriety from their 1994 debut album, Jonas doesn’t take a back seat to any. Every track on that album is kickass! I swear those white outfits looked like something out of one of their nerdy early videos. freaking comical.

Weezer: “My Name Is Jonas“-Live MSG 9-24-08 Diff. Video

this is shot closer/better from the right side on the floor and captures them taking the stage even apologizing for being late. Not many really cared except for the fools who grew impatient with Angels & Airwaves for playing a long opening set.

Weezer: “Buddy Holly“-Live MSG 9-24-08

the song which put them on the map was not surprisingly the final one they played which they went right into making a smooth transition from a flawless cover of Nivana’s Sliver which IMHO was the highlight of the night due to Rivers Cuomo sprinting out like a maniac dropkicking a record player off stage leading into it.

Weezer: “Perfect Situation“-Live MSG 9-24-08

this song is one of their best and features the beautiful Girl Next Door Elisha Cuthbert in a memorable video. Great lighting and a cool sing along. great energy!

Weezer: “Pork and Beans“-Live MSG 9-24-08

i really like this song which already is pretty big since they pushed the video. it’s got the usual funky lyrics along with that nostalgic Weezer sound. a little weird sounding too at times but clearly works.

Weezer: “Dreamin’“-Live MSG 9-24-08

this is only 1:50 long but it’s outstanding. love the drums in the background which go so well with lead guitar and bass.

Weezer fea. Tom DeLonge: “Come Undone- Sweater Song“-Live MSG 9-24-08

this sounded phenomenal even with AVA’s Tom DeLonge guest vocaling. my fave part tho came at the beginning where Rivers reenacted the party discussion which preludes the song.

Weezer: “Hash Pipe“-Live MSG 9-24-08

awesome energy and electricity here which included Cuomo jumping on the trampoline while jamming and screaming out vocals driving the crowd nuts. great stage presence.

Weezer: “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived“-Live MSG 9-24-08

one of three tracks from the new red album which sounded tremendous. it’s a little different because it’s longer and gives you so much more.

Weezer fea. 30 NYC Music Students : “Island In The Sun“-Live MSG 9-24-08

this was pretty different and unique cause how often do you see an entire stage filled with so many people during one encore? ;-) the solos were freaking awesome! :-D this also happens to be a cool video featuring island animals including monkeys.

Weezer: “Pink Triangle“-Live MSG 9-24-08

it’s only the first 58 seconds but the crowd ate it up!

Weezer: “Beverly Hills Flute Solo“-Heather Arzberger Live MSG 9-24-08

cool as hell. Heather’s solo sounded excellent. I just never envisioned a flute being used to Beverly Hills. You can see Rivers’ blue No.26 soccer tee.
