Becky Hammon has turned against her own country. Well, that’s at least what Team USA women’s basketball Olympic coach Anne Donovan thinks about the former Liberty star’s decision to play for Russia this summer.

The 31 year-old American who is one of the better WNBA guards wasn’t asked by Team USA to play for them until recently. Instead, she’ll hoop it up with Team Russia. Though she grew up in the States, Hammon has played in a league over in Moscow for CSKA during the offseason and attained Russian citizenship earlier this year.

Maybe if the Rapid City, South Dakota native who starred at Colorado State got the impression she was wanted a little more by Donovan, the current San Antonio Silver Star wouldn’t be trying to help Russia win Olympic Gold. She didn’t get bent out of shape about the reaction to the story instead putting a positive spin on it.

Sure. This story is a bit strange. But I can’t say I blame her. Donovan’s certainly acting like a baby.
