“Day Trippin”
It’s a cold late night on the East coast
Just wishing for the warm sun to suddenly toast
A heavy wind blows everything around
Making lots of sound and howling pretty loud
But you stand there anyway freezing your ass off outside
Without a care in the world cause you got nothing left to hide
The wind brushes all over and against your pale skin
Making you long for a warm shot of tonic and gin
You aren’t in any rush to leave the street corner
As deep thoughts creep in of your older friend’s daughter
Doesn’t seem to matter on this day that you’re a little old
Maybe you’re finally tired of all the talk and want to be bold
You’ve seen how she looks at you whenever you’re around
Always making you blush and shiver with a little frown
Never wanting to draw much attention to the very obvious
While the other company in the room are totally oblivious
Having forgotten what they once really were
With much to do about nothing existences in one little blur
It’s never been your style never much at all
As the girl stares you down making you want to take her against the wall
Those thoughts are what’s been dancing around your head
If only you really knew after you left what she must’ve said
Now it gets even colder as you stand in this place
But you’re not going anywhere as the wind hits your face
Red all over you wait and wait some more
Hoping for your bus called the S74
You got no idea where exactly it is
Better come soon so you can get down to biz
It might be late but it may as well be day
As you look up above and see a dark sky all gray
Kinda sums things up at this present time
If only the heavens above would finally yell out a sign
Cause you’ve come to the realization that you’re day trippin’
Knowing full well that you’re losing it quick already slippin’
But you’re okay just as long as your bus ride finally arrives
You’ve been at this stop many times before without much on the line
Any minute now that’s finally going to change
Which is why the long delay is very strange
The bus hasn’t been this late in forever
Somehow making you appreciate the bitter weather
You always quivered a little at this same stop before
But the 74 arrived just in time opening the door
You’d sit down and listen to the rap blasting away
Giving you a new perspective and wanting to scream hey
All this stuff goes on in your mind as you patiently wait
For a bus that has an unknown destination with your fate
What shall happen when you finally get on your way
Will it become possibly your most memorable day
Cause you knew all along for a while you’ve been day trippin’
Nothing around you mattered much anymore as you’re slippin’
You just stopped caring about all the petty nonsense
And instead focused on what really made the most sense
Which is why you’ve finally arrived at this exact location
Pondering if that bus will get you to your desired destination
You stand there and wait some more not knowing what’s going on anymore
Just as long as your bus finally comes and you get on that S74
It doesn’t matter how cold it is or how long you stand there
Just as long as your ride comes making it all the more clear
Cause you’ve known forever that you’ve been slippin’
But don’t really care cause you know you’ve been day trippin’
